CytoSTAR Cytotoxic Cabinet

The CytoStar cabinet provides personnel, environmental and product protection in applications involving biological agents. These cabinets have been designed according DIN 12980 for safety handling of cytotoxic drugs and meet or exceed requirements of EN 12469, NSF 49, BS 5726 and NFX 44-201.

General Features

The CytoStar cabinet has a 70% recirculating Class II A/B (A2) down flow enclosure equipped with three high efficiency HEPA filters:

  • HEPA filtered Class 10 laminar air flow, which is recirculated in the work zone creates an ultra clean work environment for product protection. A room air inflow at the front opening prevents escape of pathogens into the user’s area.
  • Vertical down flow together with room air inflow, filtered by a set of 9 HEPA filters under the work surface to ensure non contaminated area inside the cabinet and long lifetime for exhaust and downflow filters.
  • HEPA exhaust filter provides with additional safety features. No part of the main cabinet is under positive pressure from the laboratory.
  • There are constantly 2 filters operating in series, providing dual air filtration.

The design of the CytoStar permits easy and safe service. Impulsion and exhaust filters are in a clean and accessible place from the front area. Filters under the working surface are accessible from the working space and are changed with downflow air on, to protect the personnel servicing the cabinet and to facilitate disposal. Contaminated filters are never exposed to room ambient, thus avoiding any hazard.

Control Systems

Main switch with key and microprocessor control system. Alphanumeric luminescent display providing following data:

  • Exhaust air flow (m3/h).
  • Laminar flow air velocity (m/s).
  • Cabinet temperature (oC).
  • Fans elapsed working hours.
  • UV lamp elapsed working hours.
  • HEPA filters last change date.

Safety and regulation systems controlled by the microprocessor. Visual and auditory alarms shown on the display:

  • Low exhaust flow.
  • Low downflow air velocity.
  • Exhaust fan malfunction.
  • Front window opened.

Control system also provides the following safety features:

  • UV interlocking when front window is open.
  • Air flow and lighting interlocking when UV lamp is on.
  • Impulsion and exhaust fans provide a double safety system: In case of eventual stop of the exhaust fan, the impulsion one is automatically stopped. In case of eventual stop of the impulsion fan, the exhaust one increases its speed in order to maintain under pressure conditions in the working space.
  • Microprocessor compensates for gradual increase in filters resistance: Inflow and downflow are maintained in any condition
